Once the fuel tanks in both the bike and our stomachs were full, we headed north. Next stop - The Harley Davidson Museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. On the way there was an abundance of farmland and hundreds of Wind Turbines dotting the Illinois Valleys. Sun was shining and it was a crisp, but welcoming 54 degrees Farenheit. Looks like it going to get a little cooler than Florida as the days go on.
Once we got to the Harley Museum we spent the next few hours looking at the more than 450 vintage and new model motorcycles, as well as the history of the ups and downs of the Harley Davidson company. Pretty interesting, both from a motorcycle perspective and a business perspective as well. According to a video at the museum, the bad rap motorcyclists got in the 50's Hollister, California was due to a news reporter looking for a story and positioned a person on a motorcycle holding a beer in each hand, The photo went national and the bad boy biker was born. Witnesses interviewed in Hollister said the motorcycle riders were civil and orderly and just met in the town for a weekend rally. That's the story anyway, so, I thought I'd share.
After the museum, we grabbed a bite and made our way west. Ended up staying in the town of Wisconsin Dells and plan to take a boat ride through the Dells tomorrow morning after breakfast. Slight change in plans - looks like we're going west instead of northwest to make a stop in South Dakota before turning north to Canada.
Tally for today - 393 miles, 6 states, 2 time zones, 2 museum tours, 2549 miles from Key West and a long way to go. So far, it's been great.
Oh, I almost forgot about the photo bomb. While we were eating in the Harley Museum restaurant, I decided to take a photo of me and Ed with a replica vintage 1920 Harley Davidson motorcycle in the background. We were sitting at the counter with our backs to the motorcycle and I snapped the photo - hopefully I'll figure out how to upload these photos soon. But, back to the photo bomber - while I snapped the photo, the server positioned herself behind us and in front of the 1920 Harley. She asked if she could see the photo and pointed out the addition to the photo I said - you photo bombed us! She was kind of surprised that I even knew what that was - I guess to a 20 something the gray hair says old.
That's all folks for today - tomorrow's another day. Time to hit the mattresses.
Love the photo! Glad the ride is going well. Safe travels and keep the photos coming. :)
